Teak wood mainly grows in the countries that have tropical rainforests such as in Thailand, Malaysia and India.
It is extremely easy to work with and it has a structural strength that can not be beat. Many ship builders and
yacht makers use teak on the railings and floors of the boats. They use the teak wood because it is resistant to
water rotting the wood and will not gather rust when metal joints are used. Put another way teak wood is
weatherproof and will last a life time and beyond.
With a yellow hue, teak table and chairs are growing in popularity around the United States. It has beautiful
grains and the texture is wonderful. Mostly used for outdoor furniture and boat decks it can also be found in the
use of cutting boards, flooring, countertops and some use it as a veneer instead of the whole piece being teak.
Many like the idea of the teak table and chairs because it is also termite and pest resistant, which is great
for out door use. One does not have to put any kind of wax or oil on the wood, not unless it is used strictly
inside. Then good teak oil should be put on the wood to keep it from taking on a dark brown color. Teak table and
chairs are sought after by people who know and understand the teak wood. It has such a warm and satiny surface;
many will use it for their patio furniture.
Letting the teak table and chairs that are outside age naturally will surely give it a mellow gray tone, which
is fine. Some want to keep the original color of a soft yellow hue, they will take teak oil and give it a couple
coats. This is not necessary expect if one wants to keep the original color. Some claim putting a coat or two of
the teak oil on teak table and chairs makes the wood last longer, but it is not really true. Teak wood has its own
oil and not much more is required to keep it looking lovely.
The silver gray coloring after a few months on the teak table and chairs is normal when left outside. The
‘patina’ just adds a distinctive appearance, which many people like. This coloring allows the teak to blend in with
many of the outdoor colors. Gray trees in the winter, the teak table and chairs will blend right in.
